Laying wood flooring is not a particularly difficult task - you just need the traditional tools found in every home and some additional supplies in order to achieve the desired results. It is important that the wood boards you are going to use are prefinished. Here are the 3 easy steps on how to lay wood flooring. Firstly, the subfloor should be covered with a type of insulation material. Experts recommend using layers of asphalt felt (a 15-pound one will do just fine). They should be overlapping by around 3 inches and should be tucked down together with a staple gun. Make sure you remember the positioning of the floor joists as the wood boards have to be placed perpendicularly to them.

Choose the longest board to place first and drill holes for 1.5 inch nails in it each above the respective joist. The positioning of the holes should be near the wall, so that they can then be covered by the shoe base. It is important to nail the first three rows by hand. Drill holes for 1.5 inch nails at a 45 to 60 degree angle through the tongues above the respective joists. The nails should be hammered through each respective joist and half way between each joist into the subfloor space to ensure stability. It is a good idea to adjust every second row to the previous one by using a small piece of wood board, attach it to the row and rap it with the hammer to allow for tighter positioning.
